Issue of new food safety national standard about Carboxymethyl cellulose

On August 31, 2016, the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China promulgated the newest food safety national standard about sodium carboxymethyl cellulose in food (CMC). The new standard of CMC is GB1886.232-2016, which will be formally conducted since Jan. 1, 2017.

Comparing with the old GB1904-2005 standard, the new standard adds test items of purity, Na and sodium glycolate. Amend specifications of test items including loss on drying, viscosity, chloride (As NaCl) and Pb. Also, delete the test items of Fe and heavy metals.
